Showing

We believe that showing is important to any fold for the following key reasons:

  • It benchmarks our animals against the best available from other breeders;
  • It provides a forum to discuss matters or issues with fellow breeders and generally to share information;
  • It is a physical advertisement of our farming activities to fellow breeders and the general public alike; and
  • It helps promote the Highland Cattle breed and develop greater public awareness

Showing is also costly in both financial and manpower terms.  Frequently considerably distances need to be covered transporting animals to and from specific venues and the advance planning required is akin to a military procedure! Nonetheless it is both fun, rewarding and frequently educational.

We believe in showing good animals from our fold whether these are home bred or bought in and which are properly representative of the Highland breed.  The philosophy has bought us numerous successes for which we are very pleased, including Female Champion Highland Cow at both the Royal Show (in Stoneleigh) and the Royal Welsh Show (in Builth Wells) with different beasts in past years.

There are three excellent shows local to us that we are aiming to attend in 2009, being:

  • Surrey County Show (Guildford) 25th May 2009 (Entry form deadline - April 2008
  • South of England Show (Ardingly) 5th, 6th & 7th June 2009 (Entry form deadline - April 2009)
  • Edenbridge & Oxted Show (Blindley Heath) 30 & 31 August 2009 (Entry form deadline - July 2009)
